Detoxing

I missed a couple of days here, but I am back! I took a sick day on Wednesday because I had a massive headache and just couldn’t get out of bed. I thought maybe it was the crazy weather we’re having, so very hot and humid, forest fires burning out of control effecting the air quality. A 48 degree Celsius humidex is not good for anyone’s brain function! And maybe this has played in to my fatigue and headache these past couple of days, but also I think my body is detoxing because this week I’ve been eating really clean, whole food plant-based no sugar, oil, or salt. I have been having my morning coffee but just a cup and the rest of the day is herbal tea and lots of water. Still, it’s probably not a caffeine withdrawal headache. I think my body is likely flushing itself of all the toxins and nasty stuff I’ve been exposing myself to this past … years! Hell, I was back on the dairy ordering pizzas like a boss! And you know as soon as I eat any cheese I can feel the inflammation.

But this week I have been eating so clean! Breakfast polenta with apple and berries, Mexican Rice bowls, deconstructed PB&J oatmeal, bananas, one pot brown rice pastas with broccoli, kale, beans, and peppers, dry roasted unsalted peanuts in the shell, romaine, kale, fresh parsley, tahini, sunflower seed butter, almond butter, avocado … all the heart healthy good for you fats! I’ve been posting some photos on Instagram of the food I’m eating, all whole, nothing processed. Considering that the vast majority of people don’t even get the minimum 25 g of daily fiber in their diet, when you start getting 40-60 grams of fiber every day, shit happens quickly! Pun intended! 🙂 When you aren’t replenishing the nasty chemicals and unnatural toxins and you are eating lots of fiber, drinking lots of water, the nasties get flushed away. But while your body is detoxing, it’s normal to have a headache, even feel a bit drained.

Sleep is really important to give your body the time to rest and heal itself at any time, but particularly during the first while when you’re switching over to a healthier lifestyle and maybe experiencing a chemical detox like I am right now. Unfortunately, with this week’s weather, sleep has not been happening for me much. Three hours and 58 minutes last night is the low for the week but the high was only five hours and 58 minutes on Sunday night, so it’s not a big sleep week for me at a time when I probably really need some rest.

All of this to say, I haven’t left! I’m just detoxing! Regular daily posts will resume shortly.

Mood: foggy, drained, but optimistic and excited
Drinking: extra strong dark roast black coffee and water
Listening To: my air conditioning unit is so loud it’s like a jet plane drowning out all surrounding sounds
Hair: short ‘n sassy!

  1. WFPB is not easy. My wife and I have been doing it seriously since last December. Like you, as soon as she has something with dairy, the inflammation is back. I do miss cheese, but once you know what’s in it, I can do without, thanks. Keep it up, Kellie!

    1. Oh, good for you guys! Thanks, James! I was WFPB for a year in 2017 and then I had gallbladder issues whenever I would eat anything with oil. I was on a zero fat diet for 6 weeks before surgery. When I was finally able to eat again, I was just starved and went crazy eating everything. I stayed more of a junk food vegan for awhile but then I eventually transitioned right back to meat, cheese, everything. I remember how well I felt when I was WFPB though, and that’s what I want again! Hopefully, I’m ready to do it now. So far, so good! 🙂

    1. Oh yes! I love Dr. Gregor, have followed him for years on YouTube! I recently bought his book, How Not to Diet. I enjoy learning all the science. 🙂

  2. Detoxing is tough! If life is about balance– and I suspect balance is a good chunk of it — then man! you’re doing yourself a big favour these days. Chuck
