As I reflect back over the week this morning, I realise that all of the things I’ve been focused on begin with the letter W.
Since coming home to work full-time in this COVID-19 crises, I haven’t been drinking nearly enough water. In the first weeks, I drank tea. Cup upon cup of tea. I’ve since allowed one or two cups of morning coffee back into the mix. But really I’ve been drinking an awful lot of alcohol. Not during the day, of course! But as soon as my workday ends and often beginning even earlier, around noon, on my days off. Red wine, white wine, brandy, and even beer. I drank two growlers full of pale ale and stout! And a six pack of Coors Lite! I so rarely drink beer. I usually get one case at the height of summer and it lasts me the rest of the summer. But this is an unusual time.
However, I haven’t been drinking much water. So this week I added reminders to drink water right into my calendar. I get notifications by phone. Several reminders automatically populate my daily To-Do List. And yesterday, I feel like I drank quite a bit of water and less wine and caffeine. I was asleep well before midnight and only up once in the night. This morning I feel rested and clear-headed.
I also attended a theta-healing live activity online last night and even though the internet was slow and wonky and the session cut out abruptly, I feel like it helped put the focus back on nourishment and wellness for my body. Immediately following the session, my craving for a banana and a glass of water was very strong!
Today is the fifth day in a row of my rising at 5 am and starting the day with myself slowly, by writing here. I’ve used writing prompts to get me started. I’m hoping as my writing muscle develops again I will actually have something to say without being prompted. Or my response to the prompts will go in a more creative direction. Tomorrow is Saturday so I won’t have any alarm and I’ll sleep until I am rested and then begin the day in the same way. I am curious to see what time my day will begin.
I also got over 9,000 steps yesterday, which is so awesome! This week I brought out my old Wii video game and I’ve been using it to help me walk more. I have a particular game called Walk It Out, where the more I walk, the more money I make to buy things and build things on an otherwise empty island. It’s cheesy, but it helps me. I will push myself to walk longer in a session just to get the coins I need to buy a building or open up a new road. I’ve added reminders to walk into my daily schedule and To-Do List. Just 10 minutes a few times a day seems easy on paper, so I get up off my butt and begin. But once I start, a walking session might last 25 minutes before I stop. This is good!
So subconsciously or not, this week has been brought to me by the letter W:
- Waking early, to have time dedicated just for me
- Writing daily to awaken my creativity
- Water reminders to drink, keeping me hydrated
- Walking reminders incorporated right into my daily schedule
- Wii games, to inspire me to move for greater lengths of time
